Study from Durer

Study from Durer's "Study for Saint Jerome", charcoal and white chalk on grey Roma paper.

Spent an afternoon on this, then abandoned it for a year, like it was an elderly relative. Finally revisited it this weekend!

Florence, June 2012

Well, went back to Florence for the summer, to try my hand out at painting. Turns out painting is stupidly difficult. Stick to playing computer games. Anyway, this entry comes with some free sketches

Eamonn Redux

Same sculpt as a couple of posts ago, with 2-3 of hours work without the model, which let me free up and not really worry about the likeness so much. Happier with this version, although he'll still find his way into the bin soon enough...

The dancer

Dear Mr.Model, I cannot remember your name, but thank you very much for the great pose.

This sculpt ran over 2 sessions, I've recorded them and I'll stick them up at some point.

Wes, week 2

Built for War, concept

I have an idea for a series of clay sculptures, this is a sketch for the first one that I did over the weekend. Hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of this guy.

Wes, week 1

This will be another 2 session pose. I really feel like I need the extra session this time...

Lucy - week 2

Same, but different

Presentation at ESCAC, Barcelona

It's late notice I know, but tomorrow evening I'll be doing a presentation at the ESCAC film school in sunny Barcelona. I'll be talking about the importance of design fundamentals in visual effects, and talking about the work I've done recently as shot sculpt supervisor on John Carter at Double Negative, as well as some of Dneg's other work on the film.

There will be a screening of Avatar, followed by several presentations by VFX proffessionals. If you're down, you can register here (I think) -

Lucy - Long pose, week 1

This pose is going to last for 2 sessions, let's see where it goes...

I've also just realised that I don't think I've ever mentioned the blog where my colleagues are putting their work. Very rude of me! So lovely work going on there, please take a stroll and take a look - www.nudeatwork.blogspot.co.uk

Sketches

No sculpture this week, but in the interests of keeping my wee blog's new found momentum going, here are a couple of quick sketches from casts I have in my living room. One is from the head of the Laocoon, and the other from Barye's "Walking Lion" (I got that cast for a great price because a child has scrawled "Bad lion" on the side). The crazy vignette isn't me trying to be artistic, seems the camera on my phone isn't the best...

Another one - Lucy

Great model, great pose, but I stuttered a little bit on the sculpt.Oh well. Bank holiday next week, updates to continue after that.

Clifford - another 3 hour life sculpt

Well, hopefully these weekly sessions will help me keep the blog going a bit. Hooray!

3 hour sculpt from life

I've recently started running a life sculpture class at Double Negative. The idea is simple - live model, 3 hours, bring your own laptop, wacom, and copy of Zbrush. Not as hands on as clay of course, but no need to worry about armatures, clearing up after yourself, or storing sculptures.

Here's a result from Monday evening's class.
